    Bristol Young Buddhists

    Aged 18 - 35

Have you ever heard about the ‘Middle Way’? Maybe you are curious about what it is, and what it might mean for our day to day lives. It’s a concept that might sound abstract and technical at first…. but this teaching is as applicable to our lives today as it was thousands of years ago when the Buddha was alive.

For our last event of 2023, the Bristol Young Buddhist team would love you to join us for an evening focussing on this idea more...

    Sangha Night

    Sangha Sangha Night

    A perfect circle
    All encompassing
    without centre or circumference
    No I at the centre
    No point of self reference
    The whole mandala unfolds endlessly

This will be our last evening dwelling in the centre of the Mandala with Vairocana, the Buddha of Illumination.  This evening will have a more contemplative and spacious flavour with final reflections on Vairocana’s qualities and symbols, by means of reflection, just sitting meditation and more...

    Intermediate Meditation Class

    Intermediate Meditation Sangha

This term, up until the end of December, we will be exploring our third meditation of the year, Just Sitting or Simply Being.

This mediation compliments the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana but at the same time is its own standalone practice.

Much of our lives are taken up with doing. How can we simply be with our experience?

The simply being practice is about resting in the flow of immediate experience, simply what is here. It points towards more...

    Sangha Works - Timing update!

    Sangha Sangha Works

For a one off we are holding Sangha Works at 2:45 – 4:45pm this week.

The shape of Sangha (community) Works is a gentle group check in 10am-10:30am, followed by Sangha-building devotional acts-such as cleaning the loo’s, planting bulbs, sorting library books, making book displays and making shrines. A task to fit each persons energy and capacity.

Stay on after for the lunchtime meditation class (1-2.30pm)  or just more...

    Meditation for Beginners

    Introductory Introductory Meditation

Our beginners classes are a great way to sample meditation for the first time or to get refreshing support and clarity to help you set up a regular practice.

Full instructions will be given including how to sit comfortably in a chair or on cushions on the floor. We’ll introduce our meditation practices, one each week – either the mindfulness of breathing which develops calm, focus and wholeheartedness, or a loving kindness (metta bhavana) meditation which develops emotional more...

    5:30pm – 6:30pm – Thursdays

    Claire-Louise

My name is Claire-Louise and I have been teaching Scaravelli inspired hatha yoga classes in Bristol since 2006.

I see yoga as more of an art form than a form of exercise. If we can engage our curiosity whilst moving with the breath, then yoga  is like experimenting with the melody, tone, volume and pitch of the body.

In this way our practice can become more like a meditative dance more...

    Sangha Singing

Join us every other Tuesday from 6-7pm for a mantra and singing workshop.

Experience the joy of singing with others as we learn songs, melodies and harmonies from within the Buddhist tradition and beyond, from all over the world.

If there are mantras/songs you’ve sung previously and would like a chance to sing them again, you’re really welcome to share this with us!

    With Hannah, Stefan and Suzie

    Sangha Night

    Sangha Sangha Night

Our journey around the mandala of the 5 Buddhas will reach its end tonight.   At the start of the year we touched the earth with Akshobya, the Unshakeable.  Spring brought us into Ratnasambhava’s golden abundance, and in the summer we were bathed in Amithaba’s ruby, radiant love.   Amoghasiddhi met us with fearlessness as autumn unfolded.  And finally, as the winter nights drew in, Vairocana invited us to open and relax in the space of his all-encompassing wisdom and more...

Out of the Box - at Sangha Night

    Sangha Sangha Night

Some seasonal entertainment to round off our year

Join us for a celebration of the winter solstice in words and music, as Sangha Night regulars offer their talents in a home-grown entertainment to round off another year.  As well as our very own Sangha Singers, there will be instrumental and vocal music from Thea and Nick, and Merry, while Ratnadhya will cast a light-hearted musical eye over the ‘festive’ elements of the season. And, as if that wasn’t enough of an more...

    Practice Morning

    Sangha

Come and practice together at the Buddhist Centre in the morning. We will do some simple body work, meditation and share a snack together. Please bring simple snacks to share.

There will also be the opportunity to have a walk up at Ashton Court/Leigh Woods together. We will leave the Buddhist Centre for 1.30 for the walk and won’t be coming back to the centre so you will need to be able to make your own way there.

Come just for the practice morning, the walk more...
