Intermediate Meditation Class
This term, up until the end of December, we will be exploring our third meditation of the year, Just Sitting or Simply Being.
This mediation compliments the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana but at the same time is its own standalone practice.
Much of our lives are taken up with doing. How can we simply be with our experience?
The simply being practice is about resting in the flow of immediate experience, simply what is here. It points towards more...

Meditation for Beginners
Our beginners classes are a great way to sample meditation for the first time or to get refreshing support and clarity to help you set up a regular practice.
Full instructions will be given including how to sit comfortably in a chair or on cushions on the floor. We’ll introduce our meditation practices, one each week – either the mindfulness of breathing which develops calm, focus and wholeheartedness, or a loving kindness (metta bhavana) meditation which develops emotional more...

Mindful Yoga
5:30pm – 6:30pm – Thursdays
Claire-LouiseMy name is Claire-Louise and I have been teaching Scaravelli inspired hatha yoga classes in Bristol since 2006.
I see yoga as more of an art form than a form of exercise. If we can engage our curiosity whilst moving with the breath, then yoga is like experimenting with the melody, tone, volume and pitch of the body.
In this way our practice can become more like a meditative dance more...

Metta - more than just 'being nice'? - Bristol Young Buddhists
Meditation can be a powerful, transformative practice which we can make a part of our daily lives, and the good news is we can all learn how to do it! Yet, it is possible to overlook the importance of metta – an approach of loving kindness and appreciation – in our meditation. On the first Friday of November, you are warmly invited to join us for an evening where we will be looking at metta as an integral part of meditation and Buddhist practice; exploring a bit about what more...

Sunlight on Snow - at Sangha Night
Sunlight on snow
Over the course of this year’s sangha nights we have travelled around the mandala of the five Buddhas. We arrive now at its Centre and are met by the Buddha Vairocana, the Illuminator. As we approach we hear the roar of his golden lions, and are dazzled by his brilliant white light, the colour of sunlight on snow. However, once inside his realm, we see that his figure is serene and welcoming. And that he holds to his heart the golden more...

Sangha Night
“The gift that Vairocana gives us is the responsibility of sharing what we have learned with others.
The final lesson of the Mandala is that no experience is complete until it has been communicated.”
[Vessantara : ‘Meeting the Buddhas”]
As we reach the end of our year exploring the Five Buddha Mandala, this evening we will take as our
starting point the ‘teaching mudra’ or hand gesture of Vairocana, the Buddha of Illumination at the
centre of the more...

Sangha Night
Tonight Maitrijyoti leads us into the realm of Vairocana
‘In Vairocana theres a vision of complete confidence in knowing how things are because we ARE how things are’ Vessantara.
The central Buddha Vairocana radiates, prevades and illuminates space in all directions. This week we turn to and explore Vairocanas element, that of space. In doing so we can allow more aspects of our being to meet the open space of awareness, as we begin to relax more...

Sangha Night
By virtue of the golden wheel that he turns in his hands, Vairocana is associated with sovereignty, this being the emblem of the ‘wheel turning monarch’ – the ruler that governs in accordance with Buddhist teachings. A real life example of such a ruler is the Emperor Ashoka the Great, who ruled an enormous empire over two thousand years ago. But what does it mean to live in accordance with the Buddhist teachings, especially when you have responsibility for the lives more...
