Sangha Meditation Class (Intermediate)
During this term, up until April, we will be exploring the Mindfulness of Breathing meditation practice. The tradition of mindfulness in spiritual practice is well established. But what is mindfulness and where does it lead? How can we learn to develop this quality, especially in a world that so often seems to pull us in a different direction?
In 2023 we will be exploring mindfulness through traditional Buddhist approaches but we will also be using innovative techniques to more... -

Bristol Young Buddhists
In Buddhist puja (worship), often short phrases are chanted over and over again, called mantra.
These are usually in an ancient language, in Pali or Sanskrit. Sometimes these mantras invoke the
qualities of a bodhisattva, or divine being. They might call for protection or blessings, or the
wellbeing for all sentient beings. Sometimes these mantras have a literal, word-for-word meaning,
and sometimes they have no rational, logical meaning at all! We don’t have to understand more...

Going Deeper in Meditation
In the first of a series of Going Deeper meditation mornings on going deeper into the system of meditation practice, we look at going deeper into the mindfulness of breathing with the concluding sages of the Anapanasati practice: contemplating impermanence I breath in/out. We will explore how bringing this way of seeing the experience of the body breathing (as impermanent) leads us into a quality of absorption empty of any sign of an enduring body or breath.

Sangha Night
This year on sangha night we invite you to journey with us into the awakened mind. Passing through five Buddha realms, we invite you to meet the figures who live there – vivid, made of light, blazing with energy. Rich in symbol and meaning, these figures speak to us directly, in all our human complexity. They involve our imaginations, reach into our emotional lives, and, if we allow them, they will lead us to compassion and wisdom.
In January we begin our journey by more...

Sangha Night
On Sangha Night this week will be a practice evening centred around Akshobya and his powerful, yet mysterious, Earth-touching mantra, which echoes that of the Buddha immediately before his Enlightenment when calling the Earth Goddess as a witness. The evening will consist of meditation, readings and Puja.
