“Compassion does not just happen. Pity does, but compassion is not pity. It’s not a feeling. Compassion is a viewpoint, a way of life, a perspective, a habit that becomes a discipline – and more than anything else, compassion is a choice we make that love is more important than comfort or convenience.” Glennon Doyle Melton

At our last event in June we learned about metta or love, the first of the Brahma Viharas. Join us for the second event in this summer series more...

    Men's Practice Morning

As a way of deepening our meditation and shared practice, we are starting a practice morning for men in the Sangha.

There will be a chance to practice together with an emphasis on meditation and walking meditation. A simple morning of practice with no teaching input.

In addition we will be meeting up after the morning of meditation to have lunch together, either within the centre building or by going to a café. This will be an informal chance to meet up with more...

    Sangha Circle

    Sangha Circle

Our tradition places great emphasis on building Sangha (a friendly community of individuals practising the Dharma, the Buddha’s teachings, alongside each other). Possibly because of the experience of the pandemic we may be noticing how we are by nature social creatures: We need each other to know ourselves. This is a safe and open space in which to be with others to bring kind attention to how we relate to others and just as importantly, ourselves.

    For those who more...

Revolution Through the Body - Sangha Night

    Sangha Night

A meditation course on Sangha Nights in June & July

We will be continuing our theme for this year – Be the Revolution – by running a meditation course based around the connection between meditation and the body.

Meditation is often talked about as something we do with the mind. But mind in Buddhism is much more than just the thinking mind that we are used to. It includes the whole of our experience.  The deep transformation that can come more...

    Meditation for Beginners

    Introductory Meditation

Our beginners classes are a great way to sample meditation for the first time or to get refreshing support and clarity to help you set up a regular practice.

Full instructions will be given including how to sit comfortably in a chair or on cushions on the floor. We’ll introduce our meditation practices, one each week – either the mindfulness of breathing which develops calm, focus and wholeheartedness, or a loving kindness (metta bhavana) meditation which develops emotional more...

Blue Sky as Emptiness - Going Deeper in Meditation

    Going Deeper

In the second of three going deeper meditation mornings on the image of the Blue Sky we look at the Blue Sky as a metaphor for emptiness (sunyata or the open dimension of being). Having seen all experience as mere impressions in awareness we find awareness itself is open, without form, unobstructing and unobstructed: empty.

Perfume of the Dharma - Dharma Day Festival

    Festival

The Dharma is sometimes said to be ‘caught not taught’ and our Dharma Day celebration this year is an invitation to join us in recalling and celebrating whatever it is about the Dharma that has ‘caught’ you – it might be a glimpse of vision, the ‘taste of freedom’ or perhaps more like a whiff of a beautiful perfume.  We’ve called the celebration ‘The Perfume of the Dharma’ as we loved the image of Dharma being carried more...
