‘Ratnasambhava & the Open Handed Mudra’
A mudra is not just a hand gesture, it’s a symbol which points to something greater, an experience or taste of openness of being. This openness can be felt directly in the body, heart and mind. The open handed mudra of Ratnasambhava represents an orientation of our whole being, and something we can all move towards. It points to a quality that can, with practice, be suffused throughout the whole body, subtly and sensitively opening the being more and more, permeating the whole of our heart mind.
Tonight we will explore what it’s like to really absorb ourselves in the richness of the open handed gesture. We ask ourselves what is it pointing to beyond itself and how is that relevant to our everyday lives, relationships and interactions with each other?
Maitrijyoti is our youngest female Order Member and is also a part of the Sangha Night team. She guest teaches at the Bristol Young Buddhists event and also leads Buddhist study for a group of young women in the sangha (community).
Sangha Night is for the community (anyone who has done the intro course, or has been to the introductory classes for a number of months) to get together to talk, meditate, hear the teachings of the Buddha and discuss them.
We are here today because the people before us have generously given to keep us going. All our classes are run on donations which means everyone, regardless of income, can learn about Buddhism and meditation. To keep this revolutionary approach going, please do give. Thank you.
