Tasting the pomegranate. The myth of Persephone
Come to this weekend and another one January 11th 12th. BOTH TWO DAY EVENTS. Note Different times for each day.
Myths are by nature poetic and full of images. This imaginal approach often conjures resonances that invite us to see deeper into our own lived stories. Through the mysterious process of resonance and amplification we can discover new possibilities of creative choices and, as importantly, space around our habitual responses to this precious and often complex life.
Over these 2 weekends we will be exploring the meeting points between the personal images that we use to narrate our own life and this ancient myth.
Persephone is a myth exploring the necessary loss of innocence, the bringing together of the topside and underworlds and the creative fertility that blooms through attraction. And finally and perhaps most importantly, the acceptance of death as inextricably linked to our own fleeting human lives.
The protagonists in the myth are portrayed as living in states of darkness and light.
– Hades as the powerful lord of the underworld and a lonely soul longing for love.
– Demeter as the abundant earth mother and one whose grief turns to vengeance and withdrawal.
– Persephone as the beauty of synthesis through love, alongside an almost passive and silent naivety.
What does this myth offer us as Buddhist practitioners in relation to views that can bind us and those that offer more freedom? How does it lead us to recognise there is no resolution to wanting just the light filled, attractive parts of life but is an open invitation to join the total dance of appearances with kindness, supported by fidelity to awareness itself.
Over these 2 weekends we will explore these themes at our own pace using a variety of creative expressions as well as communicating together in an open circle of awareness. We hope you will join us to meaningfully embrace the myths of
our personal and collective lives.
