‘You Too Should Let That Strength Release You’: Self-power and Other Power in the Pali Canon

Is spiritual realisation something that can be produced by our own determined efforts, striving and personal attainment of wisdom?  Or does realisation arise from shraddha, a natural responsiveness which emerges beyond our willing or not-willing?  Both are true, and neither are true.

We’ll look at different texts from the Pali Canon and Sangharakshita to help us illumine the interrelationships between faith, effort, will and naturalness.  And we’ll explore what happens meditatively when we open to different perspectives on what ‘practice’ really is.
