Bahiya, you should train yourself in this way: In the seen, there should be only the seen.  In the heard, there should be only the heard.   In the sensed, there should be only the sensed.  In the cognised, there should be only the cognised…….Just this is the end of suffering.

In our final week looking at the early Buddhist discourses, we return to a group of teachings called the Udana – the ‘inspired sayings’ of the Buddha.   Here Bahiya, a wandering spiritual teacher, travels a long way to see the Buddha and receives a pith teaching which transforms him
