PART 5: A TROUBLED KING

Delightful friends is this moonlit night! Can we not today visit some holy wanderer or Bhrahmin, to bring peace to our heart?

In a discourse called The Fruits of the Homeless Life, we hear how King Ajatasattu sets out to meet the Buddha in the jungle, accompanied by his entire retinue of attendants and elephants.  The Buddha teaches him the Dharma –  lovely in its beginning, lovely in its middle and lovely in its ending.   Ajatasattu is changed by the encounter – but to what extent?   He is carrying a heavy burden – a murderous deed.
