Sangha Night: Shakyamuni Solstice Ritual
The Winter Solstice – the year’s darkest point – is a powerful pause in the turning of the year. It holds deep meaning as a time for inner reflection, encouraging us to discover inner light as the outer light diminishes. Around this time, as the day with the least daylight marks the start of winter, we may feel affected by this outer darkening.
Through letting go of past burdens or habits, setting intentions and recognising that awareness of the darkness is often essential for inner light to emerge, we can more openly turn towards the Buddha Shakyamuni’s path to awakening.
The evening will include visualising the Bodhi tree in the classic yet powerful Mindfulness of Breathing meditation and an engaging Shakyamuni ritual, interspersed with Bhante’s readings and elemental poetry. There will be an opportunity to either connect during the tea break or meditate further.
Facilitated by Maitrijyoti & Gayle (of the Buddhafield Rituals Team).
He sits upon the earth
Beneath the Bodhi tree.
Serene, calm, peaceful,
He touches the earth gently.
Relaxed,
He is presence itself,
Suffused with love.
