Dear friend,

Many of us in the College have been concerned about the lack of young people involved in our movement and entering the Order. Certainly, when I got started going to the London Buddhist Centre in the 1980s, pretty much everyone was young: the Chair was 35 and, like most people getting involved at that time, I was 25. Ever since we’ve been witnessing an increasingly aging order.

So, on behalf of the College of Public Preceptors, I’m writing to invite you to a special Zoom event on Sunday 9th November 2025 to explore the question of young people and Triratna.

We want to involve all Order members, mitras, friends and newcomers in this exploration in the hope it will seed new initiatives and help focus the issues. We’ll be hosting the event live from our International College Meeting in Adhisthana.

7.30pm GMT (UK & Ireland) / 8.30pm CET / 1am IST (Monday 10th) / 6am (Monday 10th) ACDT / 8.30am (Monday 10th) NZDT / 11.30am PST / 1.30pm CST / 2.30pm EST

Passcode: 759576

What will the event consist of?

We’ll hear from four 20-somethings about their experience of getting involved in the movement – including what challenges they have faced.

Then we’ll hear from College Members from India to England about how many people are training for ordination in their area and how many of them are under 30. We want to get a feel for how much of an issue this really is.

Finally we’ll hear from four younger Centre Chairs about how they became Chair, what helped them to take responsibility, and what their vision is for young people.

We’ll also take an online tour at the soon-to-be new Tiratanaloka.

The event will last, with a tea break, for two hours.

You’ll get a glimpse of how many people have asked for ordination worldwide and a picture of how many of those are under 30. You’ll also be able to post suggestions, meet people from around the world, and help generate creative solutions.

We really hope you’ll join us for an important exploration.
