Parinirvana Day
This event has already happened.
The Buddha’s parinirvana was his final and perfect enlightenment, a cessation of all the remaining conditions leading to suffering that are part and parcel of a human life. It is the realisation of the highest goal of human life: pure enlightened awareness.
On Parinirvana Day we will be celebrating the Buddha’s life and recalling his parinirvana with a day of practice.
In the morning we will have a series of reading from the final days of the Buddha’s life interspersed with short meditations, and in the afternoon a puja (ritual) to the Buddha. There will be an opportunity to put on the shrine pictures of those we have known who died recently as a way of bringing the memory of them in to the context of our practice.
