MINDFUL MENDING AND THE ART OF REPAIR
Are your favourite jumpers showing signs of wear? Do your socks and tights have holes in them? Then join us for a morning of slow stitching and mindful repair where we’ll explore a variety of techniques for restoring our old, worn and damaged clothing.
Why mend?
Despite living in a time when textiles are relatively cheap and available, the art of mending is witnessing something of a revival, not just as a method of transforming old and damaged clothing but also as a way of transforming our attitudes to worn and mended textiles. The stitches, patches and mended marks become expressions of care, timelines in a history of wear and repair, making our garments more personal, less disposable and ultimately more beautiful.
Please bring bring an item of clothing to repair – if you don’t have a garment feel free to come anyway and make a decorative patch for use later. All other materials will be provided.
The morning will end in meditation together.
Newcomers to the Buddhist Centre are welcome. No need to book – just turn up!
As always the morning will be run on generosity (by donation) and there will be opportunity to make a
donation if you are able and wish to. Or you can give here online.
