The three Lakshanas:

“Nothing is perfect, permanent, or personal.”

The Buddha observed that all conditioned existence has three marks: impermanence (Anitya), unsatisfactoriness (dukkha) and insubstantiality (annatta) or as a contemporary Buddhist teacher Ruth King put it: ” Nothing is perfect, permanent or personal.”

Reminding ourselves of these insights can be crucial as a daily practice and helping again and again to let go of unrealistic expectations of life and ourselves. Letting go of illusions about life and accepting how things really are can move us to see clearer, feel more compassion and glimpse the freedom of the unconditioned mind.

Our guest teacher, Chandranishta, is here to share and explore this core Buddhist teaching through a short talk, meditation, reflection and discussion.

With Chandranishta and the Bristol Young Buddhists Team
