Bristol Young Buddhists
This event has already happened.
In Buddhist puja (worship), often short phrases are chanted over and over again, called mantra.
These are usually in an ancient language, in Pali or Sanskrit. Sometimes these mantras invoke the
qualities of a bodhisattva, or divine being. They might call for protection or blessings, or the
wellbeing for all sentient beings. Sometimes these mantras have a literal, word-for-word meaning,
and sometimes they have no rational, logical meaning at all! We don’t have to understand the
language or even the meaning of what we are reciting. There can be magic in giving it a go…
Chanting is an inclusive practice; anyone can do it. It can have a calming effect on the mind and can
be used in preparation for meditation. It can also build a sense of connection to the people we are
chanting together with.
In the fourth and final of our series on Buddhism and the arts, the Bristol Young Buddhists team are
inviting you to find out a little bit more about mantra, and to try this ancient practice for yourself.
The evening is open to all those aged 18-35 years and we welcome all gender
identities. Come together to hear the teachings of the Buddha, discuss your thoughts
and ideas, and meditate.
Arrive from 7:15pm for a 7:30pm start.
No need to book!

We are here today because the people before us have generously given to keep us going. All our classes are run on donations which means everyone, regardless of income, can learn about Buddhism and meditation. To keep this revolutionary approach going, please do give. Thank you.
