    Aged 18 - 35

“Every moment of equanimity is a moment of waking up from the delusion that things should be as we want them to be.” Toni Bernhard, from “How to Wake Up”

This summer we have spent three evenings dwelling together in the abodes of the four immeasurables, or the brahma viharas. We started by practicing cultivating metta or loving kindness towards ourselves and others, allowed ourselves to feel compassion or karuna when metta meets our own suffering and the suffering of more...

A simple morning of practice with no teaching input.

In addition we will be meeting up after the morning of meditation to have lunch together, either within the centre building or by going to a café. This will be an informal chance to meet up with fellow Sangha members and to get to know each other more in a friendly environment.

    Sangha Sangha Night

The first in a series that explores ‘What is Wisdom in Buddhism?’

How can we transform lived experience through Dharma knowledge?

Bhadra will be offering the example of seeing through the apparent dichotomy between the psychological and the spiritual as a pointer to discovering the wisdom of the Dharma doors of non duality. These mysterious Dharma doors are access points that will eventually lead to the ‘turning about in the deepest seat of more...

The Blue Sky as Adhisthana - Going Deeper in Meditation

    Going Deeper

In the third of three going deeper meditation mornings on the image of the Blue Sky we look at the Blue Sky as a metaphor for Adhisthana: the rain of blessings from the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who are traditionally depicted as sitting in the midst of a clear blue sky. Taking this image as a metaphor for the openness of our own awareness to the unobstructed awareness of the enlightened mind: cutting through aversion becomes not just an absence of reactivity but also an openness to the more...

Science & Spirituality - Sangha Night

    Sangha Sangha Night

It can sometimes seem that the scientist and spiritual person are in two distinct camps. On the one hand, the scientist feels they seek answers to the mysteries of the universe by keeping their feet firmly on the ground, and perhaps look with distain at the faith-without-evidence of the spiritual person. The spiritual person, on the other hand, while seeking answers to their own questions, possibly looks condescendingly at the scientist’s faith in materialism.

    But are these more...

Wisdom in Buddhism - Sangha Night

    Sangha Sangha Night

Within our seven-fold puja we regularly recite the verses of the Heart Sutra. The Heart Sutra has often been described as embodying the heart of Buddhist wisdom but these verses can seem confounding and mystifying. Is there any way we can understand more clearly what the Heart Sutra is trying to say to us? Naravira will be exploring the Heart Sutra and trying to help us delve into its mystery.

This is our community night! It is suitable for those who have completed more...
