Sangha Night - Buddhism & the Climate Emergency

    Sangha

How do we process our responses to the climate and ecological emergency? How do we find ways to live and work with the reality of climate change by using Buddhist teachings? This workshop-based set of events mixes input, exercises and reflections.

For three evenings Shantigarbha is leading this series on his latest book: The Burning House – A Buddhist Response to the Climate and Ecological Emergency. (Book available from Windhorse Publications from more...

    Sangha Meditation

Come and join us  at our Wednesday lunchtime class.

    Meditation 1-2pm; Discussion 2-2.30pm

For those familiar with the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana meditations we will explore these practices in more depth at this class. In addition we will also explore the Just Sitting practice which corresponds to the dimension of receptivity in the Triratna system of practice.

After the meditation there is an optional opportunity for questions and more...

    Meditation for Beginners

    Introductory Meditation

Why meditate? Some of our community share their experience

These drop-in classes are a great way to sample meditation for the first time or to get refreshing support and clarity to help you set up a regular practice.  Full instruction will be given. We’ll introduce our meditation practices, one each week – either the mindfulness of breathing which develops calm, focus and wholeheartedness, or a loving kindness (metta bhavana) meditation which develops more...

    Eco-Crisis Practice Group

    Environment

“… as one never quite knows a mountain, nor oneself in relation to it. Knowing another is endless … the thing to be known grows with knowing.” – Nan Shepherd (The Living Mountain)

In this group we will be exploring our connection with nature and how it can support us and our practice.
We are invited to bring an item…a picture? a stone? a leaf perhaps?… which symbolises this connection to offer to the shrine.

At the Bristol Buddhist Centre, 162 more...

    Sangha Circle

    Sangha

    Every Sunday 7:30 – 9pm

Our tradition places great emphasis on building Sangha (a friendly community of individuals practicing the Dharma, the Buddha’s teachings, alongside each other). With the closure of the Centre we may be feeling a lack of this Sangha context in which we can share our practice, our reflections and concerns. We are social creatures so we may be finding isolation particularly difficult or we may be appreciating space to re-evaluate how we relate more...

    Sangha Meditation

    Sangha

This season we will explore the Just Sitting practice. This meditation corresponds to the aspect of receptivity within the Triratna system of practice. We will be looking at opening to our experience ‘as it is’. What can be discovered about the nature of mind and awareness and what does it mean to ‘simply be with what is’? How can we learn to look beyond the aspects of mind that inhibit this simple seeing?

The series will explore the theme through short more...

    Crucible of Communication

    Sangha

    Saturday 1pm – 5.30pm
    Sunday 11am – 5pm

At last! Another opportunity to take part in the practice of the Crucible of Communication. This ‘in person’ event in the Centre can be seen as a facilitated meditation practice attending to both internal and external experience. Just like meditation, it is an opportunity to gain some insight into the shape and texture of our thoughts and habits as they appear, especially how they affect how we relate to ourselves and more...
