What is a Retreat?
The world we live in is for most of us a busy and stressful place. There’s the stress of working, the constant demands of a consumer-orientated society dedicated to ‘getting and spending’, the stress of our relationships, or of not working or not being able to work.
A retreat gives us an opportunity to withdraw from this stressful world.
But a retreat is more than a holiday it is also an opportunity to address some of the deeper issues in our life, to look at ourselves afresh and possibly gain a new perspective on what our life is about.
Meditation, discussion and study, periods of silent reflection provide the context for this process.
On retreats we have the opportunity to experience communal living at its best, sharing time, ideas and inspiration with like-minded people.
You don’t have to be a Buddhist to come on our retreats but a desire to meditate and an enquiring mind both help!
Retreats at the Buddhist Centre typically run from 10.00am to 5.00pm and can include periods of sitting and walking meditation, discussion and study, and chanting depending on the theme of the retreat.
