Buddhist Action Month June 2017

Our events for BAM this year are all about connection; with our heart, our inspiration and longings for the world, and with one another, our community, our environment and other than human beings.

We warmly welcome you to all of the events on our programme.

Full BAM Programme:

Fri 2 June     11 am –  We’re kicking BAM off by creating a magical Indra’s Net at the centre – come and help us! Indra’s net is a vast jewelled web that extends across the universe in all directions, each jewel reflecting all others as a beautiful symbol of the interconnectedness and interdependency everything in the universe.

Mon 5 June      World Environment Day Meditation & Community Litter Pick

9 – 10 am – Led meditation connecting body with Earth. With Dharmamrta, followed by tea

10.30 am – Community litter pickWe’ll set off from the centre for a litter pick in the streets of our local community. Wear sturdy footwear. Litter picking sticks & hi-vis vests provided. 

Tues 6 June  7.30pm –  Sangha Night An evening exploring connection as a basis for Buddhist action. With Vimalavajri

Fri 9 June  7.30pm –  BAM Full moon puja – ‘Once there is seeing, there must be action’. Join us for our full moon puja this month dedicated to the Buddha, whose vision of interdependence can inspire us to reach out. With Vimalavajri

Sat 10 June  2 – 5pm – Community Jumble Sale in aid of Bristol Refugee Rights. Please come along and help us raise money for this fantastic local charity!

Tues 13 June  7.30pm – Sangha Night – The Buddha & the Green Man’ with Sahajatara. Sangharakshita was once asked, ‘What must hapen before Buddhistm can really flourish in this country?’ He replied, ‘There must be a revival of paganism first’. Sahajatara from Brighton will explore how reconnecting with our pagan roots can nourish our Dharma practice, and why it is more important now than ever that we understand our place in the interconected web of life. The evening will conclude with a puja dedicated to Tara.

Fri 16 June  6.30 – 9pm – Connecting with Other-than-human beings: Veganism. An evening exploring how we relate our desire not to cause harm to living beings to our choices about what we eat. We’’ll begin with a shared vegan supper – please bring a dish to share together with some copies of your recipe so we can swap ideas for tasty vegan food! We’ll then listen to a talk on this theme together and have space afterwards to share our thoughts. With Abhayamaitri.

Tues 20 June  7.30pm  Sangha night – Indra’s Net, Self, Sangha and World. With Jvalamalini.

Thur 22 June  10am – 2pm – Incredible Edible Bristol Work PartyIncredible Edible’s mission is to take down the barriers between you and your ability to grow food! Come and take part in an Incredible Edibles work party with sangha friends! Meet in Millenium Square by the planetarium/ @Bristol centre where there are 5 garden beds

Fri 23 June  7:30-9:30pm – Peace & Reconciliation with Shantigarbha. Join us for an inspiring evening exploring the themes of peace and reconciliation and how we might contribute to greater harmony in the world. Shantigarba will share his experience of running a reconciliation retreat for 100 Israelis and Palestinians in 2011 and opportunities to train to become a community mediator in your own community.

Tues 27 June 7.30pm – Sangha Night talk with Vajratara from Tiratanaloka. Vajratara will be exploring what we can learn from the Buddha’s conversations with Kings; the political leaders of his time.

Fri 30 June  7.30pm –  BAM closing mantra evening. Join us in dedicating our efforts during BAM, taking our actions into a deep heart wish for the benefit of all beings. With Karunavapi, Beth & Nic

We’ll also have a collection point at the centre throughout BAM for donations to our local North Bristol Foodbank, and we invite you to give to support those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet. Items currently most needed will be advertised at the centre from the beginning of June or you can also check here for up to date info.
